Training dogs is all about keeping your energy, motivation, positive and negative reinforcement. The only way anything in life works is through balance of things we want to have happen and consequences when something need a to change. A dog needs to first have a reward that motivates him. What does your dog love so much he would do anything for food, a ball, a stuffed toy, find his focus. Use what drives him as an award. Now we have to correct unwanted behavior. If we only use rewards a dog cannot figure out what behaviors are unacceptable that's why we must have consequence to unwanted behavior. Negative reinforcement is anything that stops dog from doing something it can be a noise, touch or collar correction. When dogs interact with each other they correct bad behavior with growl or bite. As humans we must use tools to simulate pack communication a dog understands. Remember correcting a dog is not a bad thing letting your dog be unruly is harmful to the dog.
